The AEL program offers free educational services to help adults improve reading, writing, math, and English skills. Participants can also prepare for high school equivalency exams, gain workforce training, and enhance career readiness.
Eligibility:
Open to adults 16 and older living in Dallas County. 16-year-olds need a court order to enroll, and 17–18-year-olds need a withdrawal from high school and parental consent.
Classes Offered:
– ESL (English as a Second Language)
– High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation
– Career-specific programs in healthcare, logistics, and business
– Integrated Education and Training (IET) for job skills and certifications
Online Options:
Many classes are available online or in hybrid formats for flexible learning, including virtual math tutoring.
Enrollment Process:
Start by attending an orientation session at various locations. You’ll complete an intake form, take a placement test, and develop an educational plan.
Support Services:
The program offers career counseling, job readiness workshops, and connections to employers. ESL students can also access bridge programs to advance to higher education or career training.
Financial Assistance:
The state provides free GED vouchers for participants over 21, and some programs cover certification exam costs.
