Every year, students from 9th to 12th grade are given a unique opportunity to dive into the world of construction at the Construction Career Day. This annual event serves as an interactive exploration for young minds, offering hands-on learning labs and equipment demonstrations, all under the supervision of experienced professionals from various construction companies. It’s a day filled with learning, inspiration, and opportunities to understand what it takes to build a career in the growing field of construction.

A Day of Exploration and Inspiration

This year’s event saw the participation of over 73 companies, including major industry players like TXDot, Dallas College, We Build Texas Roads, and the Federal Highway Administration. The day brought together 972 students and 91 teachers or Career and Technical Education (CTE) Directors, each eager to learn more about the opportunities that a career in construction can offer.

Throughout the event, students had the chance to explore the wide range of careers within the construction industry—from road construction to project management and design. Interactive demonstrations, hands-on learning experiences, and direct conversations with industry experts helped attendees better understand the skills and education needed to succeed in the field.

Gaylord Thomas from Dallas College shared his enthusiasm for being part of the event: “We love the opportunity to be a part of the events hosted by WFSDallas. We have those valuable face-to-face interactions, where we continue to inspire and push others to pursue their dreams.”

The Importance of Construction Careers

Construction is not only an exciting and dynamic field, but it’s also one that’s in constant demand. The industry provides year-round job opportunities in a variety of sectors—whether it’s building roads, designing infrastructure, or managing large-scale construction projects. The event emphasized how the industry offers stable, long-term careers for those with the right skills and determination.

By providing students with a direct look into the world of construction, Construction Career Day helps bridge the gap between education and the workforce. Students leave with a deeper understanding of the industry, potential career paths, and the necessary steps to get started on their journey.
