Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas (WFSDallas) is proud to announce the launch of its innovative Teacher Externship Program, designed to enhance Career and Technical Education (CTE) in middle and high schools throughout Dallas County. This new initiative, supported by grant funding from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), provides CTE educators and counselors with valuable hands-on experience that will bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical, real-world industry skills.

Why the Teacher Externship Program Matters

The Teacher Externship Program aims to immerse educators in industries that are vital to the future of our workforce. Educators will gain firsthand experience in high-demand sectors, including Aerospace, Business Administration, Construction, Hospitality, Logistics, and Manufacturing. Over the course of the externship, up to 140 educators will have the chance to spend 20 hours (five days, four hours each) at participating local companies.

This opportunity allows teachers and counselors to observe day-to-day operations, understand the key skills needed in these industries, and collaborate with professionals to enhance their curriculum, ensuring it is aligned with current industry demands.

How Businesses Can Get Involved

Local businesses play a key role in shaping the future workforce. By hosting externs, they can showcase their operations to educators and directly influence the skills taught in schools. This partnership ensures that students are better prepared for the workforce and that their education is aligned with industry needs.

If you’re a business interested in participating and hosting an extern, you can apply here.
